Nijinsky Gala Moscow

Conversation with a Faun

Choreography, Dance

Synopsis

The ballet, The Afternoon of a Faun, was once choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky for the Ballets Russes, and was first performed in the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on 29 May 1912. Nijinsky danced the main part himself. The music is Claude Debussy’s symphonic poem Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune. Both the music and the ballet were inspired by the poem L’Après-midi d’un faune by Stéphane Mallarmé. The costumes and sets were designed by the painter Léon Bakst.

The ballet, Conversation with a Faun, is the new choreography from Patrick de Bana. He created this ballet as a duet for the wonderful Ilze Liepa and himself. He premiered it at the Nijinsky Gala at the Bolschoi Opera in Moscow in may 2019.
